I have in my record collection a Victor Orthophonic record, recorded by Nat Shilkret and His Orchestra, the song is called “The Kinkajou” (voc by Billy Murray) and "Rio Rita " somebody knows the correct date of recording? Because in some discographies appear dated in 1929 and others in 1927.
Thanks friends.

Cristian,

Recorded February 3, 1927, according to Rust. The movie Rio Rita was made in 1929 may be where that year is entering into the equation.

I found another information, both tunes was composed by Harry Tierney (music) and Joseph Mc Carthy in 1927.
Rio Rita was a musical in this year, not relation with Rio Rita made in 1929.
Many thanks Eddie again! wink.gif

Here's a 1927 version of Rio Rita that is done in a tango arrangement vs foxtrot. I find it rather attractive. From just the title alone, if I had never heard the song before, this is the way I would have imagined it to sound. It's done by a group named (The)? Foridians. Can't seem to find much about them. Dismuke has on his Dec 16, 2004 HOTW Extra a group called Los Floridians, which actually may be the same group.

Don,

I have a Los Floridians--it's called Excelsior and I played it on our broadcast last June. I've had it nearly 40 years and it's always been one of my favorites. It is Brunswick #40250, which is a separate numbering system for the Old Mexico/South American market. If it were the US numbering sequence it would fall somewhere in the 4100-4200 range, placing it in about 1928 or 1929. There is a Los Floridians listed in Rust, but it's a group on Perfect, no relation to these. I personally think it's a Colonial Club (Bob Haring), or Earl Burtnett group just from the sound of it. Some day, maybe, I'll be able to post some of my records, but not yet.

Here's a recording of her voice with Osvaldo Fresedo Orquesta Tipica (Tango) Recorded in 1930 on Brunwick 40941

Sorry, Cristian, this won't play for me--Real Player comes up and I get the number 3841 in the title box, but never plays--probably has more to do with a problem on my end than yours, but thanks anyway. It's obviously of the same numbering sequence as my record--about a year and a half later.

Hello Cristian,

Actually, the 1929 RKO film 'Rio Rita' was a near replica of the 1927 stage musical. Florenz Ziegfeld supervised production and even two stars that appeared in the 1927 stage musical (Bert Wheeler and Robert Woolsey) also appeared in the 1929 film.

The film exists in full form at the Museum Of Modern Art, but the form shown on TV today is missing 35 minutes.

Don't despair, try this one:

Mamita (Flor de Angustia) -- Orchestra Osvaldo Fresedo (vocal by Pilar Arcos) (1930)

Here's one of my favorites by the Osvaldo Fresedo Orchestra:

Sollozos -- Orchestra Osvaldo Fresedo (vocal by Roberto Ray)(1937)
