Dismuke's Message Board _ Early 20th Century Popular Music _ Comedian Harmonists

Harmony, a musical about the Comedian Harmonists, with music by Barry Manilow and Bruce Sussman, is scheduled to premiere in Atlanta in September 2013.

They were the subject of a 1997 German movie, released in the United States as The Harmonists. In the film, the actors lip synched in the musical performances to the group's original recordings.

I'm in Atlanta, but I don't think I will be able to see this. Anybody else around here, I hope you will have a look at it. Though for me it is hard to imagine these guys doing Manilow songs. I mean, the music's already been written for 80 years, right, Barry? I just hope they don't put rap music in, like diCaprio's Gatsby.

I bought the DVD of The Harmonists. It was a great film, the period was right on, I didn't spot any obvious goofs. The lip-synching was perfect, and the sound quality was so good you couldn't tell it was 78rpm records.

It is about time I watched it again smile.gif
