Hi Everyone

I don't suppose I'm the only one that's noticed that we are fast approaching an important number in our membership. We are only ten members away from the big number 500. Does anyone have any ideas of what kind of an award we should bestow upon our 500th member that joins this great forum?

I might suggest a case of Moxie but I fear Dismuke might confiscate it for his own consumption before it ever reached the winner. A bag of Walnettos (a popular candy from the 20's - 40's) might be a good alternative and much appreciated.

It is amazing how quickly this board is growing these days. I remember when I joined in '03 and was member No. 38. Bob, you were one of the Dismuke pioneers and joined even earlier. How time flies when you're having fun.

Well,

Flapper Girl really seemed to enjoy the special print-out prizes awarded by the Snippets ™ public relations team... Perhaps we could come up with a nice print-out prize...?

Just a thought...

Ah, yes, I was absolutely thrilled with the award I received from Ian for winning the Snippets contest. In fact, I likened it to winning the million dollar lottery and still have it displayed in a prominent place -- in the "two-holer" out back!

The 500th member can count his/her blessings that Ian was not involved in selecting the prize.

So do I, and I think Matt's contribution is a great idea! I'd like to do the same with a copy of my very first CD containing the following sides as a primer on prime 20's music:

1. Sign of the Rose - Ray Miller
2. Sweet Nothings - Fleetwood Orch. on Vocalion (Ray Miller on Brunswick)
3. Baby Your Mother - Frank Black's Orch.
4. Dawning - Frank Black's Orch.
5. Out of Sight, Out of Mind - Bennie Krueger
6. Never Again - Isham Jones
7. 12 O'Clock at Night - Bennie Krueger
8. Ray and His Little Chevrolet - Bennie Krueger
9. If You Knew Susie - Jack Shilkret's Orch.
10. Yes Sir! That's My Baby! - Coon-Sanders Orch.
11. I'm Gonna Charleston Back to Charleston - Coon-Sanders Orch.
12. Flamin' Mamie - Coon-Sanders Orch.
13. Headin' for Louisville - Ben Bernie
14. My Pretty Girl - Charles Fulcher's Orch.
15. I'm Always Smiling - Billy Hayes' Orch.
16. Those Panama Mamas - George Olsen & His Music
17. Panama - Henry Halstead
18. Red Hot Mama - Coon-Sanders
19. Night Hawk Blues - Coon-Sanders
20. Ah-Ha! - Paul Whiteman
21. Just a Little Drink - Paul Whiteman
22. My New York - Sam Lanin's Famous Players
23. Moonlight and Roses - Ray Miller
24. Just a Little Drink - Ray Miller

A couple of observatons: this site is really gaining momentum. I predict that No. 1000 will come up in less than half the time that it took to make it to 500. Math Geek could explain it properly, but I think it has something to do with when something grows exponentially or tends to square itself, instead of remaining at the same rate of growth. There's more people telling more people all the time about what a great site this is--and that brings more and more talent every day, which just increases its appeal--not to mention the blood, sweat and years Dismuke has contributed to it!

What a great response to this thread I started. I think the Cds will make great awards. I've got loads of Cds that I've made. Will see what I can find to add to the award. Would like to see some input from Dismuke in this thread.
