What instruments do you think a band really needs to give it that hot 1920's punch?
Without a doubt I think it has to be the Sousaphone. It really sets the beat to any dance music. 'Nebraska' played by Ronnie Munro and his Orchestra is a good example. Nebraska (1928) This post has been edited by Aaron2006: Feb 8 2010, 01:52 PM |

What about percussion instruments like the wood block, the cow bell, and the xylophone? Were they big in the 20's?
This song has a ton of them. Piccadilly Revels - Sixty Seconds Every Minute (1927) This post has been edited by Aaron2006: Feb 24 2010, 05:54 PM |

What about percussion instruments like the wood block, the cow bell, and the xylophone? Were they big in the 20's? This song has a ton of them. Piccadilly Revels - Sixty Seconds Every Minute (1927) Every drummer had temple blocks (usually the ones that look like turtles) and a cowbell in his kit. My dad was a weekend drummer from the 1930s into the 1960s. He had a wood block with cowbells with different pitches on either end. I wonder whatever happened to his maracas. I think xylophones were used at least on recordings a lot more during the acoustic period because the sound came out so well. -------------------- Hal Vickery
