This introduction is a bit off the beaten musical path.....but worthy, I think, of your consideration.

Curiosity got the better of me when I decided to interview John Kaleta, a banjo performer whose secondary instrument is the musical saw. John's a member of the Portland Dixieland Jazz Society, founded in 1974.

I took a number of liberties during the interview, probing and plunging with abandon into the mystery of the musical saw. John in turn responded without the slightest hesitation or restraint. Virtually nothing is overlooked, nor left unsaid. And yes -- the saw's voice is heard at the end of the interview. Twenties and thirties ballads and novelty tunes are among the mix.
